At an Open Tables gathering, individuals from diverse congregations come together for fellowship and dining; with the goal of building relationships based on our shared humanity that go beyond the divides of tribalism.
Everyone is invited to bring a vegetarian potluck dish to share. (Vegetarian meals make it easier to accommodate a variety of preferences and religious dietary restrictions.)
We sit at tables of 6-8 people making sure that each table has a variety of faith backgrounds and traditions.
Using some wonderful resources from Living Room Conversations, we have substantive conversations on topics that matter.
Our next Open Tables will be August 4, 2025 at St. Luke Catholic Church from 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM and we will be discussing Acceptance - the last stage of the 5 stages of grief. Please register to attend.

-Makes it easier for ICE to detain people
Expands the list of charged offenses that trigger citizenship verification to encompass all felony charges, certain A1 misdemeanors, and certain impaired driving offenses.
Delays the start time for the required 48-hour ICE detainer hold.

Requires that jail administrator must notify ICE within 2 hours of the planned release time of a detainee.
S153- Border Protection Act
Require the Department of Public Safety, Department of Adult Correction, State Highway Patrol, and State Bureau of Investigation to enter into a 287(g) agreement with ICE.

CHARLOTTE PRIDE INTERFAITH CELEBRATION
August 10 | 4:00 pm.
We would like to invite you and members of your faith group to the annual Charlotte Pride Interfaith celebration on August 10, 2025, at 4:00 pm.
The Unitarian Universalist Community of Charlotte, at 234 North Sharon Amity Road in Charlotte, will host this year’s service. It will last about an hour and will be followed by an after-service social and refreshments.
This service brings together the LGBTQIA+ community and different faith groups to reflect, celebrate, and build relations. Additionally, this celebration initiates Pride Week in Charlotte, culminating in the festival and parade the following weekend.
Each year, the service focuses on a theme, and this year’s theme is “Faith in Action.” In light of recent global and national events, many feel frustrated and are perhaps questioning the effectiveness of past efforts to advance social justice. However, we believe meaningful progress remains possible, particularly at the local level through community engagement. The service will highlight stories of action at the local level, especially regarding how faith can motivate us to make a positive impact and advance the rights of others. Our goal is for attendees to leave the service feeling empowered to effect meaningful change in their own lives and communities.
This year, we will feature the following participants:
Reverend Val Rosenquist, Senior Minister at First United Methodist Church of Charlotte
Kyndra Frazier, CEO and Founder of KYND Consulting and Member of the Board of Directors of MeckMin
Ayya Sudhamma Bhikkhuni, Founder and Head Monk at the Buddhist Vihara of Charlotte
Additionally, if you are willing to announce this event or share this email or Eventeny link to members of your faith group, we would greatly appreciate that. As we approach the celebration, we will send some information to include in bulletins, social media accounts, or any other method of communication.
If there are any questions about the service or our organization, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Thank you on behalf of the Charlotte Pride Interfaith Team,
Matt Comer

Egregious displacement - the community is losing trust
Here’s an earlier write up on this story from Queen City Nerve:
ACTION NC – ADVOCACY for FOREST PARK MOBILE HOMES
Jessica Moreno | jessica@actionnc.org | 980.339.9139
Housing Justice Community Organizer
Dear friends and allies,
I’m reaching out to ask for your urgent support in protecting Forest Park Mobile Homes—a long-standing, majority-immigrant community in Charlotte that is now facing displacement due to proposed rezoning petition 24-127 and redevelopment by private developers, Wood Partners, in Johnson’s Council District (4).
“The existing mobile home site will be removed… Wood Partners is developing a market-rate community.”– Notes from city zoning meeting
On June 16 at 5:00 PM, the Charlotte City Council will hold a public hearing to decide the future of Forest Park. The current proposal would demolish the entire community and replace it with 395 residential units and up to 25,000 square feet of non-residential use—displacing 60 families, many of whom have lived there for over 25 years and own homes that cannot be moved.
We’re asking our partners to stand with us in the following ways:
Email your City Council representative urging them to oppose the rezoning and support Forest Park families.
Volunteer to help—knocking doors, making calls, giving rides, and helping residents speak up and stay protected.
This is more than a housing issue—it’s a moral issue. In today’s political climate, immigrant communities are especially vulnerable to retaliation and erasure. ForestPark residents are organizing for dignity, stability, and the right to remain in the city they’ve helped build.
If you or your organization can help, please sign up to volunteer, reply to this email, or contact me directly:
Email: jessica@actionnc.orgPhone: 980.339.9139
Thank you for standing with Forest Park families and for being part of the broader fight for housing justice and human rights in Charlotte.
-Asking for support from the Faith Community, asking for solidarity with home owners that will be displaced
CleanAIRE NC
Jeff Robbins | Executive Director, CleanAIRE NC
On behalf of CleanAIRE NC, I'm writing to invite you and your valued constituency, at MeckMIN, to participate in a crucial initiative aimed at addressing the growing challenge of extreme heat in our community. As you know, rising temperatures disproportionately affect vulnerable populations and can have serious health and economic consequences. We believe that community-driven insights are essential to developing effective, equitable solutions.
CleanAIRE NC is launching a Heat Mitigation Research Focus Group to gather direct experiences and innovative ideas from those most impacted by heat. We know your organization plays a vital role in building bridges between individuals, houses of faith, and organizations throughout Mecklenburg County, to strengthen our community for the common good, and your members' perspectives are invaluable to this effort.
Why Your Members' Participation Matters:
We are seeking diverse voices to help us understand:
How extreme heat personally affects them and their families.
The strategies they currently employ to cope with heat.
Their ideas and priorities for local heat mitigation programs.
This isn't just about collecting data; it's about being part of the solution-building process. The insights gathered from these focus groups will directly inform and drive the development of city and county-level strategies to address heat and its impacts, ensuring our initiatives are truly responsive to community needs.
Opportunity for Your Constituency:
We kindly ask for your support in recruiting participants from your constituency and members. This is a unique opportunity for them to contribute directly to a project that will make a tangible difference in our community's resilience to heat.
Participants in the focus group will receive:
A $75 stipend for their time and valuable contributions.
A complimentary meal during the session.
The ability to provide their ideas and inputs directly to shape future heat mitigation programs.
The chance to share their personal insights into how they currently deal with heat, which is critical for our understanding.
The profound satisfaction of being a part of a solution-building process that will drive city/county level addressing of heat and its impacts.
We believe this project aligns perfectly with our shared commitment to community well-being and environmental health. Your organization's communication of this opportunity to your members would be instrumental in ensuring broad and representative participation.
Please stay tuned for follow-up information that will have more details about the focus groups, including dates, times, and how your members can sign up. In the meantime, if you are interested, please feel free to reply to me, or contact Kennedy Williams at kennedy@cleanairenc.org at 704-307-9528.
Thank you for considering this vital partnership. Together, we can build a cooler, healthier, and more equitable future for everyone in our community.
AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY CANCER ACTION NETWORK
Together for Hope has been in close partnership with the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACSCAN) for the past couple of years working on Medicaid expansion across the Southeastern U.S. We continue to do that work but are pivoting a bit as Medicaid has come under attack in the latest federal budget.
To that end, we are looking for clergy and religious leaders in the Charlotte area (and Wilmington) to write letters of support for Medicaid—as a moral issue.
A toolkit will be posted when available

Tom Darcy | tdarcy01@carolina.rr.com
Green Faith is a multifaith grassroots organization focused on Climate Justice. At a time when our political leaders are actively denying climate change, undoing protections for people and the planet, and threatening our democracy, it is time for people of faith to take bold, moral action.
One important way we can respond is by decreasing the world’s dependence on the extraction and burning of fossil fuels and leading the way to an equitable transition to renewable forms of energy. Solar energy is now the cleanest and cheapest way you can power your home or business. It’s affordable, reliable, and it’s good for your family’s health and their future. It’s the fastest-growing source of energy in the world.
Powerful interests are doing their best to stop the energy transition at every turn. That’s why GreenFaith is encouraging people of faith everywhere to participate in Sun Day – a national mobilization, on the weekend of September 21, 2025, to celebrate the power of solar and wind energy and stand up to the wealthy and well-connected who are doing everything they can to stop this transition.
Green Faith has prepared a toolkit with detailed guidance on actions to spread the word and participate. We hope you will use it to connect on social media, secure images for the event and more.
-Shine a green light - put a green filter on your light
-This will get the conversation started
-Please consider shining a green light this weekend and share it with Tom at tdarcy01@carolina.rr.com
