FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Refugees & Migrants

Learn about the realities of immigration and hear from some of our neighbors who've been immigrants and refugees. This two-part series will cover some of the basics about immigration, current national and local issues, and the asylum process.

Anna Cushman, the faith community liaison for the Carolinas Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, will share about immigration more generally, touching on the challenges many immigrants face, current issues in immigration, and how the faith community is or can be supportive.

Pamela Dellinger of Refugee Support Services will present a 20-minute version of the RSS Refugee 101 training that will include a review of forced migration worldwide, refugees and other populations that are served through the national resettlement program (with particular focus on the legal nature of the designation "refugee") , an overview of how resettlement works at a national level, and some brief details on the landscape locally. She'll also touch very briefly on Afghanistan and Ukraine.

Please note that you'll need to allow the recording about 30-60 seconds to be ready to play. The program begins about 15 minutes in so you'll want to fast forward.
