About the Event

We invite you to join us on Thursday, March 17 and Thursday, April 21 from 12:15 to 1:15 PM to learn more about the realities of immigration and to hear from some of our neighbors who've been immigrants and refugees. This two-part series will cover some of the basics about immigration, current national and local issues, and the asylum process.

Pamela Dellinger of Refugee Support Services will present a 20-minute version of the RSS Refugee 101 training that will include a review of forced migration worldwide, refugees and other populations that are served through the national resettlement program (with particular focus on the legal nature of the designation "refugee") , an overview of how resettlement works at a national level, and some brief details on the landscape locally. She'll also  touch very briefly on Afghanistan and Ukraine.

Anna Cushman, the faith community liaison for the Carolinas Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, will share about immigration more generally, touching on the challenges many immigrants face, current issues in immigration, and how the faith community is or can be supportive.

*Given the continued presence of Covid-19 in our community and our desire to protect one another, this will be a virtual event.

MeckMIN promotes interfaith collaboration to foster understanding, compassion and justice. We envision a community that lives by the highest values and core virtues of its rich faith traditions and respects the dignity of every person. We live out these values by bringing together people from different faith perspectives and promoting congregational engagement through dialogue and fellowship.
