Why Christians Should Understand
Other Faiths
Join MeckMin as we host Union Presbyterian Seminary professor Dr. Adrian Byrd who will deliver a lecture on the need for Charlotte’s Christian faith community to understand other faith traditions and to embrace religious diversity. Being open to learning about other’s traditions and practices creates an environment for dialogue and learning which are both important for building a more inclusive community as we navigate a world that is becoming increasingly polarized, divided and bifurcated by difference.
The larger purpose of the discussion is to open the door to the practices of many of the world’s great religions that can be found right here in our own backyard. Understanding different faith traditions widens our world and deepens our perspective allowing us to foster new relationships and build collaborative action throughout the city.
Dr. Bird is an assistant professor of Church History at Union Presbyterian Seminary. He earned Ph.D. and Th.M. degrees from the University of Edinburgh, an M.T.S. from Brite Divinity school, and a B.Ed. from Sheffield Hallam University, UK.
