Too often we hear, "Not in MY Backyard." Well, Mecklenburg Ministries is excited about our 3rd annual summer camp which proclaims, "In Our Own Backyards."
From Thursday July 31st through Sunday August 8th, the youth will be learning a lot about their own "backyard" of Charlotte as they take the city bus everywhere they go. They will discover who rides public transportation and what it means to be dependent on public transit.
The campers will be have their own "Poverty Simulation," serve at Crisis Assistance Ministry, volunteer with Second Harvest Food Bank, interview homeless neighbors and join them for lunch at Urban Ministries, and do a service project at the Samaritan House. Not to mention there is a surprise mission immersion experience for the youth during the week.
Mecklenburg Ministries is so grateful to The Jewish Federation for being the lead sponsor for this program, to Myers Park United Methodist Church for designing and printing this year's brochures, and to Trinity Episcopal Church for being our gracious host location.
The committee members who planned the camp are from Temple Beth El, Myers Park United Methodist Church, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Charlotte, the Islamic faith tradition, Park Road Baptist Church and the Bahá'à Spiritual Assembly.
