On Sunday, November 18th at 2 p.m., Charlotte's first Interfaith All Clergy Habitat House will be dedicated and officially presented to the family of Faustin Kalonji and Ngalula Mwady. Prayers of blessing will be offered in Arabic, Hebrew, Sanskrit and other languages. All are invited to attend this historic dedication. Read below what Rev. Dan French preached concerning what working on this house meant to him. Clergy Share about Working on the Interfaith Habitat House Rev. Dan French of SouthPark Christian Church (written week of 9-11-07) "Faith and faith practices run parallel to the order of the day so it is not surprising to find fear secure in the pews and parishes as faith communities struggle within the cloud of fear that covers the context of all that we do." "All this is to say that last Thursday something so wonderful happened that I found myself moved to tears and hope, that despite the above, that God is more than capable of bringing about goodness, wholeness, love and peace. You see, last Thursday, religious leaders from eleven faith disciplines gathered and shared blessings in five languages spoken from seven traditions of faith over the creation of a house where one family would eventually call home. On this day some thirty to forty clergy clad in the common vesture of brown Habitat for Humanity tee shirts with hammers in hand formed common walls, common hopes, common goals and, well, community." "It makes me want to yell from the highest rafter of the newly forming house: "Take that, fear! Take that, confusion! Take that, anger! Take that, doubt!" "This September 11th I plan to honor those lost and those who are hurting by participating in physically constructing something that is hopeful and good with a diverse community of believers joined in common goals built on wells of faith from the diverse rivers of God's ocean of possibility and life!" |
