Why Have an Interfaith Community Thanksgiving Service? PDF Print E-mail

Giving thanks is valued by all of our religious traditions. It is in giving thanks, in focusing on God, that we find the true meaning of Thanksgiving. This interfaith worship service is a holy time where all people are welcome. It is a panoramic snapshot of the religious community of Charlotte.

Rabbi Murray Ezring of Temple Israel who has helped plan this year's worship celebration commented, "This service gives Charlotte the wonderful opportunity to worship with people of different religions. Iti helps us appreciate the many things we share in common that unite us. When houses of faith connect in this positive worship experience, they are not afraid to work together for our city."

In the midst of the great diversity of this city there must be some unity. Come and celebrate God's blessings with us! As we worship together, we give our entire community many reasons to be thankful.

All clergy will be recognized at the service and are invited to come at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday to robe and process together. Barbara Conrad, former Board Member of Mecklenburg Ministries and supporter of this community service commented how powerful it is to see all the clergy processing in together as leaders of the faith community.

I love how Father Frank O'Rourke of St. Gabriel Catholic, our host congregation, expressed it: "Our parish community is the better in opening wide our doors to our community. We are clebrating Stewardship Sunday this weekend and I see our hosting the Thankgiving Service as a way of placing our gifts - all that we have - at the service of the Kingdom."

Rev. Dr. Greg Moss of St. Paul Baptist Church will be the keynote speaker for this 32nd annual community Thanksgiving service. The theme is "Building on Faith." The Interfaith Singers, Charlotte's interfaith choir under the direction of Dr. Thomas Moore, will participate again. New this year is an Interfaith Children's Choir and Interfaith Sacred Dance Troupe.

You are invited to join Charlotte's Interfaith Choirs for the Annual Citywide Thanksgiving Service - Practicing Tonight!

Mecklenburg Ministries invites you to help create our community's interfaith choirs (Adult and Children's Choirs) for our upcoming citywide Thanksgiving Service. The invitation is for adults and children of all faiths. Dr. Moore said, "It does not matter whether you have a good voice. It only matters that you want to build community across all of our faiths."
