Peace Essay Contest
For High School Seniors

In an effort to promote peace in our homes, in our schools, in our houses of faith and in our community, Mecklenburg Ministries and United Religions Initiative areco-sponsoring an essay contest for all high school seniors in Charlotte-Mecklenburg as a part of the celebration of the
23rd International Day of Peace.

The essay must be on the subject: “Creating a Culture of Peace.”

The essays will be judged on originality of insights, freshness of vision, and craftsmanship in language. Submitted essays must be typed, double-spaced, not exceed 600 words in length and without any plagiarized wording.

Cash prizes!
$1,000 for 1st place - $600 for 2nd place - $400 for 3rd place

Deadline: Thursday, September 4 at noon

The winner of the contest will be invited to read his/her essay at:
• The 23rd International Day of Peace Celebration
• Thursday, September 25, 2008 – noon – 1pm
• St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 115 W. Seventh Street, uptown.
